The same thing we do every night

Nathan, like me, loves the Animaniacs. He's watched it enough now to pick up on some of the character catchphrases. And of course, there's hardly any phrase more memorable from the show than Pinky and the Brain's "What are we going to do tonight?" bit. Tonight, while out eating Chinese, I asked him what he did tonight in nursery. In "Pinky and the Brain" style, he quipped "The same thing we do every night, try to talk to God." Very witty, my son. I'm so proud.

Incidentally, for those of you not familiar with where that bit comes from, I've linked the YouTube video below.

A haircut every week?

After bribing Nathan for being good in the barber chair with a new Transformer, Nathan later said: "I'm going to have a haircut every week!"

Taking care of Daddy

We often do not have anyone to watch Nathan during choir practice on Wednesday nights, so he often stays with us, mostly content to play with his Transformers on the floor, or draw on the dry erase board. Last night, Sharon decided to keep him with us during the prayer request time at the end, and it was then he wanted his daddy time. He crawled up on my lap, and begins to rub my face. "You're sweatty, Daddy." "Yes, I know, and I'm sure that everyone here can see that, too." I gently replied, to the general giggles of everyone. A few minutes later, another repeat observation "You've got a lot of sweat." "Yes, thank you." As the boredom continued to ensue, he began to sculpt my hair into various position that its dampness would allow. Even with the clown hair I now was displaying, it was still worth having the little guy in there for a few minutes of daddy time. Most Wednesday nights he's in bed by the time I get home. And, I think he was genuinely trying to take care of Daddy.

A near aquatic feline incident

Sharon reported to me when I got home last night that Nathan, while she stepped away from his bathtime to answer the phone, attempted to put our cat Hunter in the tub with him. Fortunately, there were no injuries. More at 11. Actually, Hunter doesn't mind water all that much, and it's not uncommon for him to sit at the edge of the bathtub while Nathan is in there. This is the first attempt by our son to forcibly put the cat in.

In other news, we now have a new Kodak digital camera and All-in-one printer, as their predecessors were recently retired (see previous post) due to continual operational frustrations. The new printer has some quirks of it's own, so I'm not sure I'm going to keep it. The digital camera I got was a Kodak Z812, and is a big step up in professionalism from the point and shoot I had before. It's still in the box while I wrestle with the printer.

For any interested, here's what the camera looks like.

Goodwill to all (except for Barney)

Although it was tempting to go the yard sale route, Sharon and I decided it was time to get rid of a load of old clothes and junk we've been harboring for several years. So, we piled up the couch full of our former "treasures" - including 2 old printers and a fax machine, and hauled them off to Goodwill. Nathan, intrigued by the mountain that had been created, proceeded to climb towards the summit, where he preceded to, uh, make a phone call?
And on another Nathan note, in addition to the stories we read for him each night, Nathan has started wanting to tell one of his own, which I usually have to end up embellishing and/or finishing. Tonight's story featured Spider Man and Iron Man teaming up on a quest to go to South America, hunting the evil Barney (yes, the purple dinosaur) who was hiding in a cave eating a bologna sandwich. I guess I'm secretly glad that Nathan went along with the realization most adults have known for many years now - that there's just something just really creepy about Barney.

A rare scene

My wife pulled me away from church website editing to draw my attention to what is a rare sight in our house: All three of our cats together. Now for "Hutter" and "Pee", the two tom cats on the right in the picture, this is not uncommon. They love each other so much, if they weren't both males, I'd wonder about their "friendship." Molly, on the other hand (she's the solid black one on the left) is the aloof and prissy female. She's also a recent amputee, having lost a back leg to cancer a few months back. Hunter and Molly are biological siblings. However, for the most part, Molly doesn't care too much for the other two (or for Nathan for that matter). Since her surgery, though, she's had to essentially learn to walk again, and has had some struggles. So, a 4 year old toddler is more of a threat than a playmate in her eyes. We're working with Nathan on how to be more gentle, though.

The power has went off twice tonight. It's quite windy outside, I'm told, as the cold front comes in. We went out tonight to eat to celebrate the New Year, and there was definitely a chill in the air.

Oh, in the right of the picture, you'll notice our lovely kitchen floor, or rather lack of a kitchen floor. Our kitchen floor covering (and part of the floor itself) had to be replaced because of a water problem under the kitchen sink. We've been waiting on the contractor to finish, but then the holidays hit and that delayed things even more.
